Official guidance
Start with the official guidance
Etsy recommends listing images with width and height of at least 2000 pixels. Read Etsy’s Requirements and Best Practices for Images .
Practical default
Keep the photo’s proportions
The default workflow keeps the original aspect ratio and targets 2000 pixels on the shortest side. The 2000 × 2000 square choice is an optional ImageToolsNow preset, not an Etsy requirement.
Choose your Etsy listing photos
Drag and drop JPEG or static PNG images here, or browse your device.
Up to 10 JPEG or static PNG images · 50 MB combined
Each file: up to 20 MB (20,000,000 bytes), 24 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side.
Choose listing photos to get started.
Keep original aspect ratio targets 2000 pixels on the shortest side. Smaller originals keep their dimensions.
JPG turns transparent areas and Fit padding white. PNG preserves transparency. Changing a setting clears completed downloads.
This is a planning preview. Etsy may crop images differently across placements and devices.
How it works
Prepare a listing set in three steps
- 01
Choose your listing photos
Select or drop several JPEG or still PNG images. Each file is checked before it is used, and valid files remain available if another is rejected.
- 02
Choose the shape and crop
Keep each photo’s original proportions by default, or choose the optional square preset. For square files, Fit keeps the whole photo and Fill crops around a focal position.
- 03
Review and download
Compare original and output dimensions and file sizes. Download images individually or collect multiple completed files in one ZIP.
Plan for thumbnails
Keep the subject away from fragile edges
Place the product or main subject near the center and leave breathing room around it. Use the square preview as a planning aid, remembering that listing placements can use different crops.
Fit or Fill
Choose what the square should preserve
Fit keeps the complete image without stretching and adds space where needed. Fill covers the square by cropping edges; focal controls let you decide which part stays visible.
Neither mode enlarges source pixels. If Fill would need enlargement, that image cannot use Fill.
Protect the source
Why small originals are not enlarged
Increasing pixel dimensions cannot restore detail that was not captured in the original. When a photo is below 2000 pixels on its shortest side, the default workflow keeps its oriented dimensions and shows a warning instead of inventing pixels.

Etsy image resizer FAQ
Does Etsy require square listing photos?
No. The 2000 × 2000 choice on this page is an optional ImageToolsNow preset. Etsy’s official guidance linked above recommends listing-image width and height of at least 2000 pixels.
What happens when an original is smaller than 2000 pixels?
The default workflow keeps its original oriented dimensions and warns you. It does not enlarge the image because interpolation does not add real detail.
What is the difference between Fit and Fill?
Fit keeps the whole photo inside the square and adds space. Fill covers the square by cropping, with per-image focal positioning where a crop can move.
Can I download PNG files?
Yes. JPG output uses a white background for transparent areas and the site’s 90% quality setting. PNG output keeps transparency. Original camera and location metadata are not copied.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Validation, resizing, cropping, encoding and ZIP creation run in your browser. Reset or leaving the page releases the resources owned by the workflow.
