When JPG is useful
JPG is widely supported for photographs, product photos, and images with many colors. It is useful when a website or publishing workflow requires a JPEG file.
For logos, sharp text, or images that need transparency, keeping the original PNG may be a better choice.
What changes in the JPG
- Transparent and partly transparent pixels are combined with a white background.
- JPEG uses lossy compression, which can soften detail or introduce artifacts.
- Output size depends on the image and quality setting. A JPG is not always smaller than its source PNG.

A few common questions
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency. This converter fills the canvas with white before drawing your PNG, so fully transparent areas become white and partly transparent edges blend with white. The selected-image preview shows this same background.
What does the quality percentage mean?
It controls the browser’s JPEG encoder, starting at 90%. Higher settings generally preserve more detail and produce larger files. It does not measure how much of the original image quality is retained, and even 100% is not a promise of lossless output. Inspect the generated preview before downloading.
Why does the output size vary?
Dimensions, texture, noise, flat colors, the quality setting, and the browser’s encoder all affect file size. A simple PNG can already compress very efficiently, so converting it to JPG may make it larger. The converter shows the actual encoded byte count.
Can I convert an animated PNG?
Animated PNG (APNG) files are rejected for this version. JPG cannot preserve animation. Choose a still PNG or explicitly export a single frame in an image editor first.
What are the file and dimension limits?
Choose a PNG up to 20 MB (20,000,000 bytes) and 24 megapixels (24,000,000 pixels), with neither side exceeding 16,384 pixels. These limits are inclusive. Oversized images are rejected, never automatically resized. A device with limited memory may still need a smaller image.
Are my images uploaded or stored?
No. Image contents and filenames stay in your browser. Start over or leave the page to release image resources. A JPG is saved to your device only when you choose to download it.
Why is my PNG not opening?
The tool checks the PNG signature, structure, and animation chunks, then requires successful browser decoding. Corrupted files, renamed formats, unsupported encodings, and images over the limits are rejected. Try exporting a new still PNG from the original source. JavaScript and browser image decoding and Canvas support are required.
Are metadata and colors preserved exactly?
The converter exports image pixels through Canvas and does not copy original metadata. Browser color management and JPEG compression may change colors. Keep your source PNG for future editing or archival use.
